It’s safe to say that Bill Redell is a legend in Southern California football. He’s played and coached at every level from high school to professional and is considered one of the top prep football coaches in the country. In addition, he has achieved notable success in the business world, utilizing his unique leadership skills and tactics in both fields.

Redell then went on to play football at Occidental College as a triple-threat, playing quarterback, defensive back, and handling the kicking duties. He was an NAIA All-American in 1963 and drafted by the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos. He ended up playing in the Canadian Football League for six years, being selected All-Pro in 1966, winning the 1967 Grey Cup Championship with the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Coach Redell was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001, one of only a few small college players to be inducted from California.
After a successful career in the insurance industry, Coach Redell wanted to get back into football. He was able to ‘juggle’ the two careers for a number of years, but eventually gave coaching his full-time attention. In the 1980’s he coached his sons Ron, Randy and Billy at Crespi High School, winning a CIF Division 1 Championship in 1986, when he was named National Coach of the Year. He then went on to St. Francis High School and resurrected the Golden Knights’ football program, while serving as COO of a property & casualty insurance company.
His greatest achievement in high school coaching came at Oaks Christian High School, which opened its doors in 2000. Redell became the first Head Football Coach of this new school, which enjoyed instant success and national recognition during his tenure. His teams won seven CIF titles, including a 48-game winning streak and nine consecutive Championship appearances. (CIF records) In addition, Bill has placed 80 players in Division I College programs and is responsible for 15 assistant coaches who’ve gone on to head their own programs.
Coach Redell has recently turned over the reins of the Oaks Christian Football program to one of his former assistant coaches and now serves as Director of Football Operations at the school. This enables him to pursue other passions, i.e. public speaking, mentoring, etc.
Whether on the football field or in the Board Room, Coach Redell has led an extraordinary life. He’s been highly successful in two very diverse professions. His secrets for success are applicable in any field and the wisdom he’s attained through the years, is priceless. He’s always quick to share a tip or offer advice in his off-beat and humorous way.
Bill and his wife, Cheryl, have been married for 50 years and have three married sons who have given them eight grandchildren.
